This amazing necklace is handmade from hand painted fair trade ceramic beads. The clay used to make these beads is responsibly mined from the foot of Africa's second tallest mountain - Mt. Kenya.
The beads are handmade by our maker mums who roll and shape the clay by hand. Some of the women have been at this art for more than 50 years. The raw bead is sun dried for a day before its fired in a kiln (bisque firing) at 900 degrees to harden it. After this, the bead is hand painted using ceramic colours and then fired again at between 1050 to 1000 degree celcius to bring out the beautiful colours
The necklace comes packaged in our signature KOBE TOUGH brand gift box making it a perfect gift for that special person or occassion.
Since the beads are handpainted there maybe slight variations in colour from what is shown in the picture. This is the beauty of hand painted ceramics as each bead bears the style of the painter.
Our work supports a community of rarely gifted but vulnerable women who make a decent living from their artistic skills in bead making
